using a strategy map to balance people, planet, and profits

‘I’ve learned more in these 12 months with EG than I have in 16 years of business.’

the challenge

Our client’s Senior Leadership Team needed to align their business behind a new strategy, having faced multiple challenges: a new operating model, unclear accountabilities, leadership transitions, and a previous transformation attempt. Our goal was to help them manage their impact on people and the planet while staying profitable.

the results

  • Our client reduced overall emissions by 15% and beat targets for sustainable product sales—all while increasing profit margins.

  • A united, collaborative team, with feedback from the client: "You got everyone on the same page, moving from infighting to collaboration. You gave us vision, structure, and confidence."

the process

Phase One: We facilitated workshops using our High Performance Teams framework, focusing on internal dynamics and aligning strategic ambitions. We applied the Triple Bottom Line and Balanced Scorecard frameworks, visualising the interdependencies between financial, social, and environmental goals. We supported the leadership team to create a Strategy Map and sequence key initiatives for a three-year rollout.

Phase Two: We embedded the strategy by refreshing performance review structures, aligning end-to-end processes, and establishing Science Based Targets for emissions. We supported the team with data enhancements and focused on sustainability and digital challenges through deep-dive sessions.
